Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist

Location: Hertfordshire Wheelchair Services, Welwyn Garden City

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (inc. occasional Saturdays and late evenings)

Salary: Competitive salary (Band 6: £28,050 - £36,644 DOE)

We are looking for Band 6 Occupational Therapists, on a permanent contract and temporary contract, to join our team in our Welwyn Garden City Wheelchair Services Centre. You will be prescribing the most suitable equipment and training; meeting the needs of the users, while maintaining and providing links between clients, wheelchair training, hard to reach sectors and  local therapists. You will participate in organising functions across various clinic locations, promoting and representing our service by taking active roles in activities, conferences and events making sure we offer equal access to all communities.

The role:

  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, prescribing wheelchairs, postural accessories and pressure relieving cushions to promote mobility, function and safety; seeking support from the clinical lead for the more complex cases
  • Undertake holistic assessments of service users with a variety of physical, cognitive and/or learning disabilities. Many service users present with complex multi-pathologies which require a higher level of understanding of the impact of these conditions/disabilities
  • Assess and prescribe the most suitable mobility equipment to meet the user’s holistic needs using 'chair in a day' principles to achieve efficiency and effectiveness for our clients, maintaining productivity for the service
  • Hand over wheelchair equipment, providing guidance and the correct level of training required by each service user, determining the review time frame for each client
  • Provide advice to service users, their families, carers and healthcare professionals who contact the service regarding mobility and associated issues.

About you:

  • A BSc degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • Current HCPC/professional registration
  • Previous experience as an Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist working with patients with long-term and deteriorating medical conditions
  • Experience of undertaking holistic assessments
  • Previous experience of working in a wheelchair service is preferred; this can include rotational experience
  • Current UK driving licence, minimum 3 years
