An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Clinical Scientist within Assistive Technology at the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. The SMART Centre (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the south east of Scotland.

The post holder will undertake advanced clinical assessments of patients with complex postural and mobility needs within the Wheelchair and Seating Service, and will design, risk assess and prescribe off-the-shelf, modified and custom designed rehabilitation and assistive technology equipment. They will provide expert advice, opinions, training to other professions, provide clinical supervision to less experienced clinical scientist staff, and undertake service development and innovation activities in their specialist areas as required. They will be the clinical and scientific lead for wheelchair and seating patients triaged to the Clinical Scientist team, and will manage the waiting list of this patient group.

They will be required to be flexible in their approach, and adaptable to service requirements, and may be required to work in other services within Assistive Technology in addition to the Wheelchair and Seating Service depending on their experience and skills.
