Occupational Therapist/ Physiotherapist

Location: Isle of Wight

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (part-time hours available)

Salary: Band 6 (£30,112.00 - £37,267.00) DOE

Organisation: Millbrook Healthcare

Millbrook Healthcare is a fast growing business and is a leading provider of healthcare service solutions including wheelchair and community equipment services. Our wheelchair service centres provide excellent facilities for clients, carers and staff. We provide a range of wheelchairs and associated accessories to maximise the independence of our clients, helping them towards meeting their full potential.

We are looking for an experienced occupational therapist or physiotherapist to join our team in our Isle of Wight Wheelchair Services contract based in Newport. A brief (non-exhaustive) overview of the role is as follows:

  • Undertaking holistic assessment of adults and children with a variety of physical, cognitive and/or learning disabilities impacting on mobility. Many service users present with complex multi-pathologies which require a higher level of understanding of the impact of these conditions/disabilities
  • Assessing for and prescribing wheeled mobility equipment to meet the assessed clinical need, such as:
    - Self-propelling and transit manual wheelchairs (from basic to highly configurable)
    - Electrically Powered Indoor and Outdoor Chairs (EPIOC)
    - Tilt-in-space manual / EPIOC
    - Specialist pressure cushions
    - Wheelchair accessories (harnesses, belts, head rests, one off modifications)
  • Depending on experience, and with further training, you may work with the wider team (rehabilitation engineers and senior therapists) on provision of:
    - Modular seating systems
    - Paediatric wheelchairs (manual and powered)
    - Specialist buggies
    - Custom contoured seating systems
  • Providing education and training in use of equipment using a 24-hour postural and pressure management approach in collaboration with service users, their families and other networks such as the wider multi-disciplinary team
  • Relating in an empathetic manner with service users and their networks to equip them with the knowledge and understanding to manage their mobility needs. Millbrook therapists work alongside our service users to promote healthy lifestyles and routines to reduce risk of secondary health conditions (pressure ulcers, weight gain) that can follow loss of mobility
  • Working with the team on risk management and ensuring equipment provision supports mobility whilst being safe for use in the community with consideration to accessible environments and transport options
  • Engaging in service development and CPD training activities which could include attending conferences and a range of in-house and external training. Participate and contribute as required with clinical audit, evaluation and research activities

About you:

  • A BSc degree or PG diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • Current HCPC/professional registration
  • Professional experience working with patients with long-term conditions – experience in paediatric, neurological or equipment provision services is considered very relevant
  • Previous experience of working in a wheelchair service is preferred (experience can include rotational experience)
  • Current UK driving licence (minimum 3 years) is essential, and a willingness to drive Millbrook vehicles

Rewards & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary: Band 6 (£30,112.00 - £37,267.00) DOE
  • Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week) full-time or part-time hours available
  • 5% enhanced employer contribution pension scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Life assurance
  • Company sick pay
  • Up to 33 days holiday (including bank holidays plus optional 5 unpaid days)
  • Staff benefit scheme – 200+ exclusive perks and discounts from leading retailers and leisure outlets

This role is working in a regulated activity and may be subjected to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
